Health Careers Opportunity Program - Professional Tutor

Summary: 

D’Youville University, in collaboration with the School of Health Professions, is excited to announce an opportunity for a Professional Tutor as part of the Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP), funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration. The DYU HCOP aims to assist individuals from economically and educationally disadvantaged backgrounds in the Buffalo and rural Western New York region, helping them enter and graduate from health professions programs. This initiative focuses on improving recruitment, retention, and graduation rates through enrichment programs that address the academic and social needs of students.

The Professional Tutor will provide in-person tutoring to enrolled HCOP students in various subjects, including but not limited to English for speakers of other languages, science, and writing. Tutors must be available for up to 10 hours per week, with flexible availability in the afternoons, evenings, and/or weekends.

Responsibilities:

  • Tutor students in assigned subjects to enhance their understanding and academic performance.
  • Provide guidance to promote effective study skills and strategies.
  • Assist students in assessing their skills and setting academic goals.
  • Maintain a log of tutoring activities and student progress.
  • Collaborate with project staff and faculty to discuss planning and activities.
  • Work closely with HCOP Success Coaches to support student success.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree in education or a related field is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students.

Pay: $9,000.00 - $9,360.00 Annually
