Physician Assistant Program - Faculty

Buffalo, NY

The faculty member is responsible to teach 24 credit hours across the Doctor of Medical Science for Physician Assistants curriculum, advise students, in addition to program, university, and community service, professional development and leadership and scholarship.

The candidate must be a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program, be NCCPA certified and licensed to practice in New York State. Three years of clinical experience is required; teaching experience strongly preferred. A doctoral degree is required, Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc) degree preferred. Qualified candidates must show evidence of good moral character, strong work ethic, flexibility, and

ability to collaborate with inter-professional team members. Performance will be evaluated by the program director in these domains: teaching, service, and scholarship and professional development. The successful candidate will play a key role in the leadership, development, implementation, and evaluation of the DMSc curricula. This position requires a commitment to excellence in teaching, student advising, scholarly activities, and service to the university community.

Responsibilities: 

Teaching:

  • Deliver high-quality instruction in the DMSc program, utilizing evidence-based teaching methods
  • Design and facilitate engaging learning experiences that promote critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and advanced knowledge in the field
  • Mentor and support students in achieving academic and professional excellence
  • Foster an inclusive and collaborative course environment
  • Develop and implement course assignments and deliver learning activities that permits measurement of course student learning outcomes

Advising and Student Support:

  • Offer office hours
  • Provide academic advising to DMSc students, guiding them through their educational journey and professional development
  • Assist students in identifying career goals, research opportunities, and pathways to success in the physician assistant profession
  • Work synergistically with student support programs at the university 

Scholarly Activity and Professional Development:

  • Engage in scholarly activities, including research, presentations, and publications, contributing to the advancement of the field
  • Stay current with developments in medical science and physician assistant education, integrating new knowledge into teaching and program development
  • Participate in professional organizations and attend relevant conferences to maintain expertise and expand professional networks

Service to the University and Community:

  • Contribute to the university's mission through participation in faculty meetings, committees, and initiatives
  • Engage in community service and outreach activities that align with the goals of the DMSc program and the university
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the Center for Doctoral Studies, Physician Assistant Department and across the university to promote interdisciplinary education and research
  • Participate in recruitment events and other events of the program

Qualifications: 

Education: 

  • Doctoral degree in a related field (e.g., DMSc, PhD, EdD, or equivalent) and graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program required.
  • Current certification as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) and licensed to practice in New York State.

Experience: 

  • A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience required. Experience in teaching, curriculum development, academic leadership, and program evaluation is highly desirable.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. 
  • Proficiency in using educational technology and online learning platforms.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 Annually

The salary range reflects our good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible compensation at the time of posting, the role and associated responsibilities, and the experience, education, and training of the selected candidate. 

Faculty rank will be commensurate with education and qualifications.
