College of Osteopathic Medicine - Medical Information Specialist
Job Summary
D’Youville University’s Proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) is seeking a Medical Information Specialist to join our dynamic academic community. The Medical Information Specialist will play a vital role in supporting the research, teaching, and learning needs of students, faculty, and staff in the field of osteopathic medicine. This position requires a skilled professional who is passionate about providing exceptional library services in a healthcare education environment, utilizing the latest medical resources and technologies to enhance the educational experience.
Responsibilities
- Library Services & Resources: Provide expert research assistance and instruction in accessing and utilizing medical and health-related information resources, including databases, journals, textbooks, and digital content.
- Curriculum Support: Collaborate with faculty to integrate information literacy into the medical curriculum, offering instruction on evidence-based medicine, systematic reviews, and scholarly research practices.
- Research Support: Assist students and faculty with advanced research methods, data management, citation styles, and navigating complex medical databases
- Collection Development: Manage and maintain the medical library's collection, ensuring that resources meet the evolving needs of the COM community. Evaluate and acquire new resources in line with curriculum and research priorities.
- Information Technology & Systems: Utilize library technologies and tools to enhance the accessibility of medical resources and improve library services.
- User Education & Outreach: Develop and deliver training sessions, workshops, and tutorials to educate students, faculty, and staff on library resources, research techniques and integrity.
- Collaboration: Work closely with faculty, staff, and academic departments to support research initiatives and scholarly communication. Participate in library consortia, professional organizations, and other networks to stay updated on trends in medical librarianship.
- Reference Services: Provide high-level reference support, including one-on-one consultations, to assist users in locating and using medical literature and information resources.
- Administrative & Reporting: Assist with library administration tasks, including data collection, reporting, and strategic planning. Support the evaluation of services and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- Knowledge of health science and osteopathic medicine education.
- Strong knowledge of medical and scientific research, as well as familiarity with medical databases and other health sciences resources.
- Experience with library systems, information retrieval, citation management tools, etc.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and staff.
- Ability to deliver engaging workshops, presentations, and individual instruction.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong multitasking abilities.
- Strong interpersonal skills, enthusiasm, and motivation to contribute to the team’s growth.
- Skills in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
- Ability to develop and maintain evaluation and development procedures.
- Knowledge and understanding of the academic departments and course scheduling.
- Ability to gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports.
- Ability to work in a start-up environment, with a positive attitude.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work on various project-based, multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to identify problems, develop solutions, and implement change.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook
Physical and Environmental Requirements
- Mental/Visual Demand and Physical Effort.
- Must be able to lift and maneuver normal size full file box for archival purposes.
- Must be able to occasionally bend, twist, and stoop.
- Frequent typing of computer keyboard.
- Must be able to operate standard office equipment such as computer, mobile device, phone, copier, scanner, printer, or related items.
- May be called upon to work beyond the normal workday

Pay: $55,000 - $65,000 Annually
