Kavinoky Theatre - Creative Clinic Program Director, Part Time

Summary:

The Creative Clinic Program Director is a temporary, part-time position under the administration of the Kavinoky Theatre. The PD is responsible for recruiting and training the Creative Clinic ensemble as well as coordinating workshops with internal and external constituents based on the Creative Clinic curriculum. The PD will be a professional theater practitioner with experience as a teaching artist. Preferred qualifications include supplemental trainings in areas such as Theatrical Intimacy, Standardized Patients, Improvisation, or other specialized focus in embodied theater practice.

Responsibilities:

Program Leadership & Development

  • Serve as the primary manager and artistic leader of The D’Youville Creative Clinic.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee program structure, curriculum delivery, and rehearsal processes.
  • Collaborate with Kavinoky Theatre leadership to ensure alignment with organizational mission and values.

Ensemble Recruitment & Training

  • Recruit, audition, interview, hire, and train 5–7 Creative Clinic Ensemble artists.
  • Build a cohesive ensemble reflective of the diverse demographics of Western New York.
  • Design and lead specialized training in The Creative Clinic curriculum for ensemble members.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and trauma-informed creative environment.

Artistic & Educational Practice

  • Lead embodied, participatory theater practices that may include improvisation, role-play, and performance-based methodologies.
  • Adapt teaching methods for diverse learning styles, experience levels, and community contexts.
  • Maintain professional standards of care, consent, and ethical practice.

Administration & Collaboration

  • Coordinate scheduling, documentation, and reporting related to program activities.
  • Communicate regularly with the Executive Artistic Director regarding program progress, needs, and outcomes.
  • Support evaluation and assessment efforts as needed for funders or partners.

Qualifications: 

Education: 

  • BA or BFA in Theater or Related Field (Required)

Experience:

  • Professional theater practitioner with teaching artist experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of professional performance experience.
  • Experience working with diverse communities or interdisciplinary programs.

Physical & Environmental:

  • In Person. Work is performed on site at the D’Youville Kavinoky Theatre in Buffalo, NY.
  • May require some evening availability.
  • Must be able to occasionally bend, twist, or scoop. Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time while using a computer.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Supplemental training or certifications in one or more of the following:
    • Theatrical Intimacy
    • Standardized Patients
    • Improvisation
    • Embodied or applied theater practices
  • Master's in Theater or Related Field

Pay: $45,000 - $48,750 Annually
