Summary:
D’Youville University is rapidly expanding its online course offerings and is seeking an outstanding Online Instructional Designer. This position will work under the direction of the Executive Dean of Online Learning and Faculty Development to support the University’s goal of delivering high-quality online and hybrid/blended courses. The Online Instructional Designer will provide pedagogical and instructional design support to faculty, ensuring the integration of technology into instruction aligns with D’Youville’s mission and strategic objectives. This is a place-based position at our Buffalo, NY campus.
Responsibilities:- Report to the Director of Online Learning and Instructional Design.
- Collaborate with faculty and course creators to develop engaging learning activities and compelling course content that enhances student retention and learning transfer.
- Act as a Canvas LMS Graphical User Interface (GUI) Administrator.
- Provide consultation, project management, and troubleshooting for technology integration in web-enhanced, hybrid, and fully online courses.
- Develop and deliver customized professional development opportunities, including workshops and training sessions, both online and in-person.
- Utilize online quality assurance practices, such as Quality Matters, to conduct course design reviews and provide constructive feedback to faculty.
- Cross-train with department members and IT services to ensure seamless support.
- Evaluate instructional media and social media tools to enhance learning experiences.
- Conduct instructional research and analysis on learners and contexts to inform best practices.
- Ensure compliance with NY State and federal mandates for online offerings, including the Section 508 Amendment to the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
- Provide support to Online Learning students, faculty, and staff, including orientation and troubleshooting.
- Maintain student and faculty accounts on Online Learning servers and manage account records.
- Stay current with field knowledge through professional development opportunities.
- Provide technical support for multimedia users, particularly in postproduction of digital video.
- Manage purchases and track orders for the Online Learning department.
Requirements:
- Commitment to supporting the University’s mission.
- Strong customer service orientation and experience.
- Knowledge of instructional design principles as they relate to higher education online classrooms.
- Ability to adapt to new systems for administrative duties and user training.
- Comfort and competence in working collaboratively within a larger team.
- Self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to meet project timelines.
Preferred:
- Experience working at a college or university with an LMS (e.g., Blackboard, Moodle, Canvas).
- Trained course reviewer using recognized rubrics (e.g., Quality Matters, OSCAR from the SUNY system, OLC).
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; a master’s degree is preferred.
- Experience in customer service with technology support.
- Background in developing online learning environments, designing curriculum, and utilizing web 2.0 tools and social media.
- Evidence of project management skills and positive feedback from constituents served.
- Prior experience teaching in an online environment or designing courses is preferred.

Pay: $55,000 - $60,000 Annually
