Student Affairs/ Wellness - Mental Health Counselor

Summary: 

D’Youville University is seeking a dedicated Mental Health Counselor to join our Student Affairs team. This highly visible role is essential in implementing the mission and vision of D’Youville University and the Division of Student Affairs. The successful candidate will serve as a mental health advisor and licensed mental health provider/educator for our student population. We are looking for a self-starter who thrives in a dynamic environment and possesses strong skills in mental health counseling, student support, holistic wellness, and preventative programming.

This position will collaborate closely with another mental health counselor and various campus partners to ensure that outreach and programming within The Wellness Lodge align with best practices. Evening and weekend hours may be required during the academic year to manage workload and attend meetings and events.

Responsibilities:

  • Promote TimelyMD “Saints Care” as the primary provider of mental health care for students.
  • Serve as a licensed representative to receive student case information from TimelyMD providers.
  • Conduct up to ten counseling sessions per week, including clinical services, assessments, consultations, and referrals.
  • Refer students needing more than six 45-minute sessions per semester to TimelyMD or established community partners.
  • Coordinate with services offered within the D’Youville Health Professions Hub to ensure holistic care for all students.
  • Dedicate at least eight hours per week to student educational program development and administration.
  • Mentor and guide graduate assistants within the Wellness Lodge.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Student Development & Advocacy on drug and alcohol assessment and education.
  • Develop and deliver mental health training for student leaders across various university departments.
  • Maintain and organize confidential student records.
  • Serve on campus committees as a mental health advisor and provide support to faculty and staff as needed.
  • Maintain bi-weekly on-call responsibilities for professional staff consultation.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience in mental and/or holistic wellness.
  • Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs or community organizing, including policy development and programming.
  • Strong cross-cultural, interpersonal, and writing skills, with the ability to positively represent the university to diverse populations.
  • Commitment to promoting personal wellness and experience facilitating psychoeducational workshops.
  • Ability to develop partnerships with community organizations to support student success.
  • Innovative mindset to create programs that enhance student wellness and improve retention and graduation rates.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of individuals on campus and in the community.
  • Master’s degree in counseling, social work, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • New York State licensure to practice mental health counseling.
  • Relevant professional experience within Student Affairs or related fields, demonstrating progressive responsibilities.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations and manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Strong administrative, organizational, supervisory, and budget-management skills.
  • Must possess a student-centered philosophy and a great sense of humor.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $50,000.00 Annually
